Mr. Herb scooped a big scoop of strawberry ice cream and handed it over. George, being his curious self, peeked over the counter. His big brown eyes sparkled. Could he scoop ice cream too? “I have some errands to run, George,” said the Man with the Yellow Hat. “Stay here and enjoy some ice cream—but don’t get into trouble!”Mr. Herb smiled. “Take your time, George. George looked at all the different ice cream flavors—banana, raspberry, chocolate, vanilla, peppermint, and so many more! He just couldn’t decide.

Meanwhile, Mr. Herb was busy preparing a special ice cream order for a big party. “This has to be just right!” he said as he carefully scooped ice cream into a large bowl.

Then suddenly, the phone rang. “That might be another order!” Mr. Herb said, hurrying away to answer it.

George’s curiosity got the best of him. He climbed onto the counter and grabbed the ice cream scoop. “If Mr. Herb can do it, maybe I can too!” he thought. He dipped the scoop into banana ice cream and placed it in the bowl. Then he added strawberry, walnut, raspberry, and chocolate.

Before long, there was a giant mountain of ice cream! Just as George was about to add vanilla on top of peppermint, he heard a loud shout. “George!” Mr. Herb cried. “That’s NOT what my customer ordered!” George had mixed all the wrong flavors together. Mr. Herb shook his head. “Now I have to start all over again!”

George felt scared. He didn’t mean to make a mess! He quickly ran over to another counter near the shop’s big front window. He spotted jars of cherries, nuts, coconut, whipped cream, and sauces. There was even a bowl of fresh bananas!

He placed some bananas in a dish, then added raspberries, chocolate chips, and whipped cream. George was so proud of his creation. Just as he was about to take a bite, he heard tapping on the window.

A group of people had gathered outside, watching George’s ice cream masterpiece! “Add some nuts!” shouted a boy. “Try sprinkles!” called a girl. “Don’t forget the cherry on top!” George nodded. Of course! No sundae is complete without a cherry!

Suddenly, Mr. Herb’s shop was full of customers! He could barely keep up with all the orders. When everyone was finally served, Mr. Herb looked at George and smiled.

“Well, George, you may have messed up my big order, but you also brought me a lot of customers! I guess I should thank you.” Read also Monkey Short Story On Hard Work
