Magic of Kindness

This is a short story on the magic of kindness. There was a monk’s ashram in a village.

Many students used to come to the ashram to study. Once the monk asked his disciples, how can we kill our enemies?

The first disciple said, “We should cut off the heads of our enemies.”

Another disciple said, “We should throw stones in the enemies head.” In this way, we can kill our enemies.

The monk was surprised after hearing from his disciples. The monk said, “We can kill our enemies without beheading them and without drawing blood.” The monk started telling a story of Ramdeen and Ramesh who lived in a village.

There was a village named Dhul-Saras. There lived a farmer named Ramdeen. He never spoke respectfully to anyone in the village. Everyone in the village knew Ramdeen’s habit and did not like him.

Once a person named Ramesh came to live in the village of Ramdeen. The people of the village told Ramesh about Ramdeen and asked him to stay away from Ramdeen. In response, Ramesh told the villagers that he would kill Ramdeen.

The news went to Ramdeen that Ramesh would kill him. Ramdeen got very angry on hearing this and started hating Ramesh.

Ramesh was new in the village, so he sent fruit baskets to all the villagers. Ramesh asked his servant to send a basket of fruits to Ramdeen’s house as well.

When Ramdeen came to know about the fruit basket, he refused to take a basket of fruits and told the servant that Ramesh would definitely need something in return instead in future, so he is offering me a basket of fruits. Ramdeen refused to take a basket of fruits.

One day, Ramesh’s cow fell into a big mud pit. Ramesh tried hard to get the cow out of the pit but he failed. Ramdeen was also passing by the same route. Ramesh asked Ramdeen for help but Ramdeen refused to give help and said, “I have to go for very important work, therefore, I cannot help you. Ramdeen then left from there. Ramesh somehow took the cow out of the pit with the help of the villager.

As soon as Ramesh saw Ramdeen’s cow falling into the pit, he soon went to his house and brought two bulls to pull the cow. Ramdeen told Ramesh that I do not need your help. But Ramesh insisted that he will help him in getting the cow out of the pit. After the support of Ramesh, Cow went out of the pit.

Ramdeen felt very strange to see this. When Ramdeen went to his house, he felt something different today. There was happiness on his face.

As soon as Ramdeen’s wife came and asked, “Why are you looking so happy today?

Ramdeen said, Once Ramesh had spoken to the villagers about killing me. Today really Ramesh killed me. He killed my ego.

The next day Ramdeen went to meet Ramesh and hugged him and thanked him for the help.

After narrating this story, the monk told his disciples that with cooperation and kindness we can kill any of our enemies.
